Bardo Custom Blending, Inc.
Project Scope: New food processing plant
Location: Elroy, Wisconsin
Designer: Dimension IV Design Group
Fewer than five years after the Friede team completed a 23,000-square-foot remodel and warehouse addition at Bardo Custom Blending, Inc. in Elroy, we were back working on their next expansion. This time, the project involved converting the original small office area, which was now being used for storage, into an employee break room and locker room. We also added a new 9,500-square-foot addition onto the production side of the building to allow for the expansion of their dried milk product lines.
The project sounded simple enough when the new owners and general manager met with Friede staff at the end of 2018. We quickly encountered a few unexpected challenges, including poor soils in the construction area and the metal building package requiring more substantial anchor bolts for the roof load. Additionally, the primary steel was delivered rusty and required Friede crews to mechanically remove the rust and repaint it. What started out as a relatively simple building addition for a repeat client, turned into quite the adventure!
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2020 Silver Project of Distinction.
