Boy Scouts of America Bitton Family Range
Project Scope: New skeet and trap range
Location: Oxford, Wisconsin
Designer: Boy Scouts of America
In early May 2015, the Three Fires Council of the Boy Scouts was presented with an unexpected opportunity and challenge. The opportunity was in the form of a donor coming forward who wanted to see a shooting center developed for the use and benefit of the scouts who make up the Three Fires Council of St. Charles, Illinois. The challenge was that the center needed to be developed that spring for use during the summer programs, which would start only six weeks later. Camp Freeland Leslie had expanded its rifle range the spring before and had land available for the development of a new skeet and trap range.
Details and plans were developed over the next two weeks and construction on the range began the last week of May. Eighteen working days later, the Bitton Family Skeet and Trap Range was completed and available for use by the first scouts who arrived on June 19th and throughout the rest of the summer.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2015 Gold Project of Distinction.
