CARPENTER

The Position:

We have an immediate, full-time openings for Carpenters to join our team of professionals.

Friede & Associates is a fourth-generation construction company that traces its beginning to the early 1900s.  With both carpentry and concrete crews still a part of our business, our 45-person firm has completed projects in nearly every industry, and with virtually every type of construction, including tilt-up, structural steel, pre-engineered steel, panelization and wood construction. But today our firm is best known for its work from The Wisconsin Dells/Lake Delton area south to Madison and beyond.

Responsibilities:

Primary Purpose: Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.

Important Attributes:


Essential Functions: Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated. Selects specified type of lumber or other materials as directed by the superintendent.  Prepares layout using an approved squaring procedure. Marks accurate cutting and assembly lines on materials. Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using various types of tools. Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together as specified. Verifies trueness of structure with laser and carpenter's level. Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring. Builds stairs and installs blocking for cabinets and accessories. Applies sheeting to walls and ceiling as specified. Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, kick plates, and closers. Workers may spend time on one job or may be transferred from task to task or job to job as the project progresses to completion.

Workers should be able to: work within precise standards of accuracy; rate information using standards which can be measured or checked; compare and see differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; look at flat drawings or pictures and understand how they would look as solid objects; work under stress or pressure;  and follow oral and written directions, plans, and blueprints.

Physically, workers must be able to: see well (either naturally or with correction); coordinate the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers;  climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull or work at heights as required; frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds or more; constantly use handheld vibrating power equipment for extended periods of time. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, or rain. Also, must be able to work in dirt, dust, smoke, or fumes.

Necessary Education & Experience Qualifications:


High school diploma preferred. Completion of apprenticeship program is helpful. Must own and maintain a good supply of carpentry hand tools, sharp and in good condition. Must be willing to perform tasks in other job classifications as work allows.
