Carr Valley Cheese
Project Scope: Manufacturing expansion
Location: Mauston, Wisconsin
Carr Valley Cheese, an award-winning cheese manufacturer, needed to upgrade its Mauston, Wisconsin facility with new equipment and technology. As a part of an ongoing effort to increase production and meet customer demand, a new automated brine tank, washing equipment, refrigeration upgrades, and additional storage space were required. These highly specialized pieces of equipment were custom-ordered from Germany and took 18 months to arrive.
As part of this expansion, Carr Valley Cheese needed to define and reestablish a stream that had run through the edge of the property, regrade the adjacent property (which had routinely flooded during major rain events), and remove poor soils that were present at the expansion site. Due to the building’s age, existing plans were not available, so engineering included significant on-site exploration and the development of "as-built" plan documents to serve as the basis for planned modifications.
The final result is a 4,440-square-foot masonry and pre-cast building addition and a complete facelift of three sides of the existing factory and retail area. The building site also allows for future expansion. Planning for this multi-phase expansion project began in September 2021 and was completed in May 2023.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2023 Gold Project of Distinction.
