Chula Vista Fire Restoration
Project Scope: Fire restoration
Location: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Designer: General Engineering Company
Chula Vista Resort suffered a lightning strike and subsequent fire at its Indoor Water Park during a midweek storm in July 2017. The damage resulted in the complete destruction of two of the raised parapet walls on the roof, significant water damage to the wall system, and significant damage to the building’s roof system.
Friede & Associates worked with the owner and their insurance carrier to identify the full extent of the damage and to create a plan for the reconstruction. Ultimately Friede & Associates and its construction partners removed and replaced nearly 200 feet of upper wall sections, installed a new roof system, and retextured the Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) of the area below the wall replacement, all while keeping the waterpark open during construction.
The wall system was made of a series of wood panels that attached to the Glu Lam structural system of the indoor waterpark. This award-winning project began in September 2017 and was completed in January 2018.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2018 Silver Project of Distinction.
