Chula Vista North & South Tower Renovation
Project Scope: North & South Tower renovation
Location: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Designer: GBA Architecture & Design
This renovation project began in the North Tower with the removal of the exterior skin of the building on the east side of the structure. The exposed timbers and southwestern graphics were to be replaced by a two-toned Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS). The project required the scaffolding and tenting of the entire façade to allow for crews to work and protect both guests and automobiles in the adjacent parking lot.
Daily communication with Chula staff allowed the project team to become aware of days of higher occupancy when some of the rooms in the construction zone would be needed. To enable guest rooms to be used during construction, an opaque film was applied to the new windows to prevent either the workers on the scaffolding or guests staying in the rooms from seeing each other.
While the North Tower consisted of a six-story masonry and steel stud structural system for the walls, the South Tower structure was completely made of wood. Once again, crews divided the building façade into bays to allow for demolition and reconstruction to happen in an organized and safe manner.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2020 Silver Project of Distinction.
