Reedsburg Public Works
Project Scope: New public works complex
Location: Reedsburg, Wisconsin
Architect: Architectural Design Consultants, Inc.
The new Reedsburg Public Works complex consists of three buildings: a 6,480-square-foot wooden salt shed, an 11,392-square-foot cold storage building, and a 42,542-square-foot main facility. The project included the construction of a new combined Public Works Department and Parks and Recreation shop facility on a new site with new utilities. Phase I site work included extending an existing street, installing new utilities and utility stubs to the building pad, and mass excavation, which were all completed under a separate contract. Site work for this project included excavation and backfill for new buildings, finish grading and site restoration, curbing, paving, striping, site lighting, fencing, and landscaping.
Despite the State of Wisconsin issuing an emergency order, which required all individuals to stay at home except for “essential businesses,” this project continued because of its municipal and essential status. The project crews faced extensive metal building supply issues and the daily challenges of a global pandemic with enhanced employee safety protocols. In the face of all these challenges, the project was completed in just nine months.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2021 Silver Project of Distinction.
