Seats, Incorporated Fire Restoration
Project Scope: Fire restoration
Location: Richland Center, Wisconsin
Designer: FM Global
Seats, Incorporated designs, manufactures and markets heavy-duty seating and accessories for transportation and military vehicles. In December of 2013, a fire destroyed one bay and damaged another at Seats' bulk tank building in Richland Center, Wisconsin.
As a result of the fire which damaged about 25% of the structure, some of the manufacturing and storage needed to be relocated to Seats’ other facilities. Prior to the fire, Seats had ordered new manufacturing equipment to be delivered to the Richland Center location, so it was imperative that reconstruction of the facility proceed as quickly as possible.
Friede & Associates worked closely with team members from Seats and FM Global, their commercial mutual insurance company, to establish the project’s scope, the design and begin to order items with long lead times. The original building was a pre-engineered metal structure and Friede made plans to replacement it with another pre-engineered metal building.
In all, 12,600 square feet of the damaged building was completely replaced and 4,400 square feet of structure was restored and partially reconstructed. A connecting 2,400-square-foot bulk storage facility required cleaning of tanks and reinstallation of piping, insulation and electrical. The entire process—from execution of agreement to completion—was accomplished in just four months.
