Sundara Woodland Retreats
Project Scope: New spa facility
Location: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin
Designer: General Engineering Company
As part of the expansion of their spa services, Sundara Inn & Spa at the Wilderness Resort sought to develop another guest lodging option for their clients. Friede & Associates, with assistance from its design partner General Engineering Company, worked with the owners of Sundara to develop two four-unit buildings, along with an 80-foot elevated connector and a 1,200-square-foot quiet room that are situated behind the main spa complex.
The units include a main suite that features a great room, a large bedroom, and a specialty shower/bath. These units also include an outdoor patio that features private hot soak tubs for up to six guests. A truly unique element of the project was the development of a quiet room that allows guests to relax in front of a large glass wall that overlooks a wooded forest with dozens of deer and other wildlife.
The award-winning project took advantage of a panelized wall system which allowed the Friede crews to self-performed nearly 40% of the project while building throughout the winter months.
This project was recognized by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin as a 2018 Gold Project of Distinction.
