What started out as incredibly bad news for the Reedsburg Country Club several years ago—that hundreds of the trees in and around the golf course had to be removed because they had been poisoned by a pesticide maintenance crews used on the course—ultimately resulted in the construction of a brand new clubhouse and banquet facility. And what a facility it turned out to be!

February proved to be another memorable month as Friede & Associates celebrated being awarded seven more Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) Projects of Distinction Awards recognizing some of the many exciting projects that we completed over the past year.

The project? A 25,000-square-foot office expansion and renovation project for Ramaker & Associates, an architectural and engineering services company in Sauk City, Wisconsin that happens to be one of Friede's design-build partners. The task? Renovate an existing 20,000-square-foot building and add 5,000 square feet to meet Ramaker's growing space needs. The result? Completion of a $1.8 million project on budget and one month early.

It was indeed a challenge: 47 acres to be developed, more than 125,000 cubic yards of earth to move, more than 2,000 feet of water main and nearly 6,700 feet of storm sewer to be installed, six synthetic soccer/lacrosse fields and four synthetic baseball fields to construct. That’s the brief description of the $4.6 million site development project for the Woodside Sports Complex in the Wisconsin Dells that Friede & Associates was proud to complete in July of 2015.

Just after dawn on a Saturday in early March of 2014, Mike Kaminski received a call from the head of security at Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells informing him that smoke had been seen coming out of the roof at the Cold Water Canyon Clubhouse. The Clubhouse contained Big Moe's restaurant and the resort's golf course pro shop.

Success is a good thing, but it comes with its own demands. In the case of Jay’s Power Center in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, the need for expanded space to showcase popular products and expert services led to a renovation project touted today as a boon to the local marketplace.

They say timing is everything and it could not have been better for this project in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Highway 12 construction plans advanced by the State of Wisconsin placed the location of the Glacier Valley Ford dealership, owned by Mike and Becky Hoppe, in a prime spot for significantly increased traffic and visibility. That’s why the Hoppes purchased 10 acres of vacant land along this prime corridor in Baraboo at the right time and teamed up with Friede & Associates to help make their dream of a new facility a reality.

Visitors to the Wisconsin Dells this summer will find themselves traveling along the Dells Parkway asking themselves, “When did they build that new restaurant next to the Pizza Pub?” When they turn into the parking lot for the new B-Lux Grill & Bar, the new gourmet burger and sports bar, they will be in for a surprise.

The 2015 ABC of Wisconsin Projects of Distinction Awards Program was held on February 18, 2016, at The Wilderness Resort Conference Center. Friede & Associates team members, as well as project owners and design team members, were present to accept the awards.

The newest True Value in the country opened in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, just in time for the 2015 Christmas season. The new 24,000-square-foot Metallic pre-engineered metal building features extensive timber framing at all entrances and creates a complete retail center with the addition of an exterior greenhouse, and lawn and garden center.

There is a lot of talk about value engineering. But what exactly is it? And how does it work in your best interests as a buyer of construction services? By definition, value engineering was born at General Electric during World War II. Shortages of skilled labor, raw materials, and parts forced G.E.’s Lawrence Miles—the father of what he termed “value analysis”—to look for acceptable substitutes. Miles and his team noticed that these substitutions often reduced costs, improved the product, or both.

Although Friede & Associates is well-known throughout Wisconsin for its commercial and industrial construction, we have been known to build a residence or two. This executive residence and carriage house is just one of the high-end homes Friede has constructed.
